Why Would I Want a Postpartum Doula?

Amrit postpartum doulas support families as they move into their new role of parenthood by supplying reliable and factual information, reassurance and hands-on support with children and household organization – enabling new mothers to recover from pregnancy and birth and focus her energy on bonding with her new baby which can have a long-term impact on their physical and emotional health.

Do Amrit doulas replace a midwife?

No. Amrit doulas do not perform any medical procedures (such as starting IVs or cervical checks), nor do they provide any medical advice. An Amrit doula will work together with midwives as an advocate for the normal, physiological process of birth who provides physical and emotional support and resources for expectant families. Your Amrit doula typically meets with families one or two times prior to birth and then attend throughout labor, birth, and early postpartum. Amrit doulas are not only concerned with easing pain, but also help women and their partners stay calm and feel supported during labor.

Are doulas only for natural childbirth?

No. Amrit doulas provide support for all childbirth options, whether in-hospital, in-home, epidural, without pain medication, cesarean, or OB or when a midwife is present.
